My female dog's vulva is swollen, but no discharge. Is it silent heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 75 lbs

I have Rottweiler female she has little bit swelling over her vagina from 7 days and now she is standing before male (street dogs or other males also) but she doesn't have any vaginal discharge as other females have during their heat season. My female always comes in heat just approximately in 3 month. but this time she doesn't have any vaginal discharge. What you think???? Some breeders saying that it's type of silent heat. Plz suggest me, advice me.

Hi there. It's certainly possible that this could be a "silent" heat, as not all dogs have bleeding from the vulva during their heat cycles. It sounds like she's showing other normal signs of heat, such as vulvar swelling and standing for mating. The only way to know for sure what is going on with her heat cycles would be to see a veterinarian who deals with reproductive issues, for testing such as vaginal cytology, progesterone blood levels, etc. Without this information, it's all just a guess :)
