My cat had a lung issue. What is a normal breathing rate for recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | spayed | 5 years and 10 months old | 7.05 lbs

My cat was diagnosed with a slight pleural reaction in her right lung, her breath rate when deep asleep is 20-25 breaths a minute.. otherwise it’s 30-40 breaths per minute. Has she recovered yet?

Hi there. A sleeping respiratory rate of less than 25 breaths per minute is considered normal in cats, so this is definitely a good sign :) If she's not showing any symptoms of illness and her breathing rate is normal, then she may be fully recovered. If you're not sure, I would recommend taking her in to your vet for a recheck to be safe :)
