My neutered kitten isn't peeing or pooping. When should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 2 months and 15 days old | 2 lbs

We have been home with our new little guy for about 8 hours and he is eating and drinking lots but he has not peed or pooped at all. He has gotten into the litter box twice and acted like he was peeing but I could not find any clumps when he got out. He was neutered yesterday and I know it’s important to monitor that stuff afterwards. I am just wondering when I need to worry about that he hasn’t peed or pooped!

It would be highly unusual for a kitten to have urinary complications after neutering. You are a good pet parent for monitoring him, but as long as he is interacting with you, interested in food, and is doing normal cat behaviors such as grooming I wouldn’t worry yet. If he’s repeatedly getting into and out of the litter box without producing anything, if he starts vocalizing in the box, or if there is bloody discharge from the surgical area take him right in.
