Why does my recently adopted cat still hide after her spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

I just adopted a female cat that is about 4 years old. She was shy and scared the first day then by evening she came out of hiding and enjoyed being petted. The next day she did the same. She isn't afraid anymore so why does she continue to hide for several hours? Also, she was spayed the day before I brought her home.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your new cat. I suspect that she hides as she is still adjusting to life in your home. Indoor cats are fairly sedentary anyways and will spent a portion of their day sleeping. They tend to be more active in the evenings or nights by nature. She is potentially still a little sore from her surgery as well. It sounds like is adjusting well to living with you. Just be patient with her. I hope this information helps!
