My senior cat has a soft, red lump on his throat. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Norwegian Forest Cat | Male | neutered

MY 14 y/o cat has recently(2days) had a large lump down his under throat area spanning the width of his neck - a circle area of it is red and looks as if it’s a graze. He is eating less but he is still eating and is drinking water fine. He is quite a lazy cat so I haven’t noticed any behavioural changes. Also the lump doesn’t seem to be painful as he has let me lift his chin up to see the lump and let me push and feel it - feels soft and feels like fluid or fat and he doesn’t flinch when touched

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Scruffy. He appears to have a wound on his neck. I would recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He will need the hair around the wound shaved so it can be fully evaluated. Then his veterinarian will likely prescribe an antibiotic and possibly a topical disinfectant solution to help keep the skin clean as it heals. I am glad it is not painful to him, but it will still require treatment. I hope this information helps!
