My cat looks pregnant and is full of milk, but no kittens. Pregnant?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 10 months and 14 days old | 6 lbs

There is a young unfixed cat at my work who appears pregnant. The vet says she is postpartum and can be spayed but I'm confused because she has been here for 2 weeks with no babies and she is still super full of milk. Also I'm no expert but it doesn't look normal to me but doesn't look like mastitis either. I'm super confused and the vet isnt here on weekends to ask. Does this look normal to you? No ultrasound done, vet just felt. Could she be pregnant?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cinder. She can have x-rays of her abdomen to confirm that she is not pregnant. An ultrasound is fine, but babies can be easier to visualize on an x-ray. She may have already had kittens and has them hidden somewhere to nurse. The other consideration is a condition known as mammary hyperplasia. This would resolve with spaying her. I would recommend x-rays before having her spayed. Some veterinarians will spay pregnant cats, but personally I will not. I hope this information helps!
