My dog smells bad after baths. Is baking soda safe for odor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 months and 15 days old | 60 lbs

So Quinn smells really bad. I've given her several baths and cleaned her up good but there's no change. People living with me are getting very upset about it and the house stinking so bad. I heard to use baking soda and rub it in her fur. Could I do that?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Please do not use baking soda on Quinn. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like she may have a skin infection. If she does, that could be the source of her odor. I recommend taking her to a vet for an exam. They may need to look at her skin cells under a microscope to determine the cause. Once a diagnosis is made, they can give her medications to help with the odor. Good luck and kisses to Quinn!
