What can I give my dog to prevent common vaccine side effects?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 62 lbs

I have a 60lb dog that is on Apoquel for chronic dermatitis. He is due for his 3-year rabies' booster. Are there any homeopathic or other remedies I can give him before or after to help minimize the side effects of the vaccination? Otherwise, he is pretty healthy.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! The Rabies vaccine is well tolerated and comes with minimal side effects. If Frankie has never had a vaccine reaction in the past I wouldn't expect him to have one this time. If you want to be cautious then give him an oral dose of benadryl a few hours before the appointment. I wish you the best! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/
