Why do my cat & rabbit twitch in sleep? Is cat back twitching normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 3.3 lbs

Sorry to add two questions but i have been noticing my cat, and my american albino rabbit which is almost 4 years now jerks a lot while sleeping. Is it normal? I've been watching this happening since a long time but i dont remember when it started. They seem to be totally alright. Playful and healthy. Plus i've noticed my cat's back part (above the tail, not the tail) twitches a lot when its active and sometimes when its being restless even after it poops or pees . Should i take it to the vet?

I wouldn't worry overly about the twitching when they are asleep as many animals make active movements when dreaming. Your cat is likely simply twitching its skin because it is excited. As long as it is healthy and not showing discomfort when toileting I wouldn't worry about it. If it is really concerning you I would go to the vet for peace of mind.
