My cat is aggressive after neutering. How can I give him antibiotics?

hey so I neutered my cat 2 days ago. And the surgeon perscript "vial penicillin" for 3 days. but he's so aggressive and there was no way to inject anyything

I would give your vet a call to let them know you are having trouble giving Mint his antibiotics. They may have you bring him in so they can help you safely administer them to him so he can be treated. Give your vet a call now. Best of luck.

If the vet prescribed it, then yes it is important to give to Matias as prescribed. I would see if you can hide it in food to give to him, or have a friend or family member help you give it to him. If you are really struggling, give the vet who prescribed it a call and they may be able to give you a liquid antibiotic to give him, which would be easier to administrate. You should have him checked, or rechecked, by your veterinarian. Neutering typically does not result in more aggressive behavior. Additionally, any sudden behavioral change can be due to illness or injury. Once medical causes have been ruled out, you can focus on behavioral issues. Consider a pheromone product, such as Feliway Spray or plug in diffusers, to help decrease anxiety or aggression. Provide additional litterboxes, bowls, toys and bedding to prevent resource protection. You may have to separate them for a week or two then gradually reintroduce them while employing the measures described above.

Neutering could definitely help the aggression problem. I would also recommend picking up a product called Feliway. It comes in a spray and a plug in and it has pheromones that can help calm your cat. You will not be able to smell it. Sometimes this helps, too. You can also spray the towel in the carrier so he can bring it with him to the vet. I would contact your vet for an oral medication to help sedate him prior to his next exam. This would help ensure his safety and every one that handles him.

If it was very recent, within the past 48 hours, he may be painful. See your veterinarian for a recheck and for pain medication if indicated. It will take several weeks for his testosterone level to drop, so until then he may show some aggression.

Is he still on the antibiotics? If so maybe you could call and request a different medication? If he is no longer taking the medication and he is still vomiting then she should have a follow up appointment. It is possible that it is just coincidental with the neutering and he could have a foreign body in his stomach, or a parasite causing him to vomit. They may want to do an x-ray and/or some blood work. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

I understand! Medicating cats can be very challenging in some cases. I'm not sure what type of medication he is taking, but some options would include mixing in some canned food, tuna, or other special treat. If he won't eat it this way and won't allow you to medicate him by putting the medication directly in his mouth, you could ask your vet about having it compounded into a tasty treat or liquid suspension that might be easier to give.

This is a common problem with cats and it's likely that most of them don't get their full dose due to spitting or accidental wastage. While it's best to make sure she gets the full dose, there will be some effect even if she gets a little. I usually don't prescribe antibiotics for extractions unless there appears to be a bad infection. I'm sure your vet prescribed them for good reason, but you can always call and ask how important they are and let them know that it's nearly impossible to give. They may advise you to stop the medication, or have an alternative solution to the problem. I hope that helps and Vivian gets better soon.

I'm sorry you're having this situation!  It increases the stress for everyone when inter-cat relationships are aggressive.   While uncommon in neutered males, sexual aggression is still possible. Here is an interesting article from Tufts university regarding this issue.     I haven't personally run into this in my practice, but I have heard of Boar Mate spray being recommended.  Sometimes anti-anxiety medication such as fluoxetine can also be helpful when given to the aggressive cat.   Talk to your veterinarian about specific recommendations for use. http://www.tuftscatnip.com/issues/22_1/feature/Understanding-Feline-Sexual-Aggression-222-1.html

It sounds like you have a lot of things going on with Cecile. Cats can have aggression for many different reasons, with territorial or fear based aggression being the top two, but many other common causes. It can be hard to figure out what the cause is and even harder to start to reduce the aggression. Without having more information, I would recommend two things: - Pay a lot of attention to when the aggression happens and work on avoiding any triggers you can identify. - Talk with your vet about anti-anxiety medication to see if that helps with all of his issues. If you have access to a veterinary behaviorist, I would definitely recommend a consultation, but i don't know of the availability in Indonesia.
