My dog has separation anxiety. How to make his boarding stay better?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Fox Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 13 lbs

Hi there My husband and I are going away for 4 days and we are putting our little dog milo in a pet resort for the weekend. Last time he was there he was so worked up for hours after we picked him up. He doesn’t like being alone and I’m wondering what else I can do to make his stay at the pet boarding more pleasant for him. I think he suffers separation anxiety. Can you help please? Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is a very common complaint. I recommend talking to your vet about some anti-anxiety medication for his stay there. There are so many great options that wont turn Milo into a "zombie" - they'll just help him relax and enjoy his stay a bit more. Best of luck to you all and enjoy your travels!
