My Chihuahua has a growing black bump on her eyelid. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 5 months old | 10 lbs

I think my 5 y.o. Chihuahua has a benign meibomian gland cyst. I noticed it the day after I gave her bravecto for the first time and it’s growing since then. It is a black bump in the eyelid. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I agree, that a meibomian gland cyst is the most common cause for Nicki's right upper eye lid mass. Most of these cysts do not cause a problem, though they do slowly grow over time. I recommend removing them while they are small. You can watch it for growth and discuss removing it will your Vet if it grows larger. I wish Nicki the best!
