My cat has a squinty eye, discharge, and twitching. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old

My 1 year old indoor cats left eye is very squinty and has whitish brown watery discharge. It is bothering him you can tell. I’m worried though that His legs have started twitching, now his back too. And almost tenses up when you touch him, like a spasm almost. We have an appointment tomorrow, i want to make sure though it doesn’t sound more emergent to you. Thanks

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Remy. It is definitely good that he has an appointment tomorrow. He could have an eye infection or even a scratch across the surface of his eye. The doctor may recommend eye tests to determine the best course of treatment. A common test is to place a drop of eye on the eye to look for a scratch. The twitching is likey unrelated, but should be evaluated as well. In the meantime, keep the eye clear of discharge and prevent him from pawing at it if possible. I hope this information helps!
