My dog eats grain-free Fromm. Should I switch to Fromm Gold food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

Im wondering if I should switch my dogs food to the Fromm gold. Right now she's on the Fromm four star grain free. It seems like by looking at the ingredients that the Fromm gold has more meat. It does have some grains, but she doesn't have any allergies. What should I do? The gold is the purple one.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unless your dog has a true grain allergy (which is very rare), then there is no problem feeding grains to your dog. If she likes the food, has good poops, and a good hair coat, and is a good weight, then feed it. The most important thing for dogs is to feed a lower fat, higher fibre diet as they get older (about age 7) as at this age they are more prone to gaining weight and diseases such as pancreatitis which are made worse by fatty foods. Best of luck with Chloe.

Hello, Fromm is up and coming and a lot of clients have had good experience with this food. Overall, pet food is really only evaluated by how your pet does on this food. Despite both foods being good, Chloe may respond differently to one or the other. For non-working dogs, we try and provide any maintenance diet which is tolerated the best. Both foods appear to be similar in ingredients and both are grain free. Try feeding one and see which Chloe prefers the best. If she does not like one, then try the other. Hope this helps and best of luck.
