My rabbit relaxes a lot, runs, and digs. Is it bored or just normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | 10 months and 24 days old

It always relaxing in the room stretching out its legs behind at different places, sometimes it will go out and run around around at a fast pace, after that it'll just go back relaxing. Although this is it's usual behavior, I wanted to know is it because it's bored and that's why it don't feel like doing anything?Although it always very excited to go out but it'll just come out to relax and sometimes will go exploring a bit by digging things when it feel like it. Is there anything can be done?

I am assuming that your concern is that your rabbit is active for only short periods of time, and otherwise it is doing rabbit-typical relaxation behaviors? Rabbits, like people, have differing activity levels between individuals. From what you stated, it sounds like Julius is excited to come out, so one thing you may try is encouraging him to come out and play more often. Some rabbits will do this by chasing balls (make sure they are made of non-toxic substances, are not so small that they could accidentally be ingested, and use them only when Julius is supervised), or playing in cardboard boxes (no labels, markings, or tape please!). Hopefully this gives you a place to start, and if you would like to dive into this subject further, I’d be happy to do a consult with you!
