My dog has a small red spot. Is it ringworm or can I treat it at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 12 days old | 53 lbs

I think my dog may have ringworm, it just came up today. I was wondering if I needed to go see a vet for it or if there was something I could do at home to treat it? It is no bigger than the size of a dime.

If there is no hair loss or crusting/flaking of the area it is possible this is a fly bite. With fly bites we often see this type of red/purple bulls eye appearance and it will usually go away in a few days. If there is hair loss, or scabby/flaky skin in the area then a visit to the vet would be recommended.
