Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs
I was fostering an 8-12 week old kitten who just had it's back leg amputated due to a broken femur. All was fine, he was playing and using his other back leg well. Then all the sudden 2 days ago he stopped eating, became lethargic but no fever or other symptoms. Yesterday he was dehydrated, and looked emaciated and had trouble using his other back leg suddenly (no signs of injury). Was acting as if he was suddenly blind (didnt react to waving hand). Died this morning. What may have caused this?

Poor baby! I am so sorry for your loss. My biggest concern with cats and sudden deaths like this would be congenital heart problems especially i male cats. It can cause them to throw clots which could have caused paralysis in the other rear leg. It can also cause a high blood pressure which could cause acute blindness. Another concern would be some type of toxin. You could always have a necropsy done on him to see if they can find the cause but sometimes the results are inconclusive. Again, I am sorry for your loss. I hope this helps.
