Is it safe for my puppy if a friend's dog recovered from parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 months and 17 days old | 22 lbs

A friend’s dog was apparently diagnosed with distemper and parvo, and was taken to the vet where she has been treated for almost 2 weeks and is about to be sent home (apparently healthy). Is it safe if my friend visits us? I’ve read that the virus can spread easily P.S. Charlie already has been vaccinated twice and the next one is within a week

I would strongly advise against it. Parvo can be be shed for days even after symptoms have resolved. If your dog was over 2 years old and fully vaccinated I wouldn’t be as concerned, but at only 2 and 1/2 months of age, his immune system is not fully developed. Even though he’s vaccinated he’s still at risk. https://www.petcoach.co/article/parvovirus-serious-diarrhea-in-puppies-dogs/ I hope that’s helpful! Thanks for asking PetCoach!
