My hamster has a big tumor. Is it benign or something serious?

How do you tell the difference between a benign tumor and a malignant tumor by just looking at a hamster? I'm very worried about my hamster. :( Her tumor looks big and huge.

Unfortunately it is not possible to tell the exact tumor type by looking at the growth. This requires a small sample of cells at least - this can be done by taking a fine needle aspirate. Indications that a tumor is malignant are quick increase in size, redness, ulceration, and irregular borders, but these are not definitive. I recommend having Hazel seen by a vet who can perform a biopsy or fine needle aspirate and recommend medications or surgery to make her more comfortable. I hope all is well!
