My cat has heart disease & fluid in lungs. Vets stumped. Any ideas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 12.3 lbs

Hello, My kitty is in the hospital right now. They said that she has heart disease and are trying to stabilise her blood pressure so that she can come home without the need for medicines to stabilise the BP. We took her there because she seemed to have difficulty breathing as well as lethargy and a loss of appetite. She now looks much brighter and has an appetite. There was fluid in her lungs which seems to be returning but everyone is stumped as to what is going on with her. Any ideas?

You could ask them if they work with a cardiologist. If she hasn’t yet had an echocardiogram (performed by a cardiologist) that will probably give you the best information. Don’t hestitate to respectfully and politely ask the vet in charge of her case for clarification if you don’t understand what’s going on with her. Sometimes we forget to discuss things in an understandable manner! I am sure your vet would be happy to clarify as best as possible. I’m sorry I don’t have more specific answers, but with complicated cases like hers I really can’t give you a whole lot without knowing the entire story. (Which can’t be done in 500 characters.
