My puppy has a soft lump on his face after his vaccine. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 9 days old | 36 lbs

This morning I noticed a lump under my puppies skin just under his eye about 3 inches. Just above his gums. Theres nothing in his mouth so it is under the skin, it feels soft, I can move it around a tiny bit. He doesn't whine when I touch it and he isn't acting any different, he's still super super energetic. I'm worried it may be a tumor or cyst. Last night we did give him his spectra 5 vaccine. I dont know if that could cause this but I'm lost.. any ideas? It's on the left side of his face.

There is a lymph node in that location on the face, so that might be what you are feeling. It is possible that the vaccine stimulated that lymph node or there is something else going on that it has enlarged. If it is not resolving in a couple of days or it if is getting larger and harder, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine it. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
