My Yorkie has swollen lymph nodes. Is it infection or cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed

My dogs submandibular nodes and on the back leg are swollen for 1 month. Back then she vomited and had diarrhea and was given an antibiotics, lymph nodes became swollen a 2-3 days after. It her body still fighting an infection or could it be something more serious? She is 6 and a otherwise healthy yorkie.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Lymph nodes that are swollen throughout the body like that is very concerning. I would be very worried about lymphoma. Lymphoma can respond well to some medications, and better if caught early. I would recommend having the nodes sampled to see if they are cancer. Hopefully they are just reactive, but if that is the case you will need to find out what they are reacting too, and treat the infection, as the antibiotic used previously has not worked. Best of luck with Kim.
