Is it safe to stop my dog's Prednicare abruptly for eye ulcer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 14.5 lbs

Hi lily was taking 1 1/2 mg of prednicare daily for allergies since February as apoquel didn't work but my question isn't about her allergies Last Friday I stopped her pred as she developed an eye ulcer I know u shouldn't stop it abruptly but it was under orders from my vet I'm really worried now about if it will hurt her stopping like that as today she's been drinking more water than normal for her Was it safe to stop dead at that dosage She's back on the apoquel short term

Hi there. 1.5 mg per day is not a very high dose for a 14.5 pound dog, so I would not expect stopping the meds abruptly to cause any problems in this case :) As long as Lily is acting normal, there should be no reason for concern.
