My dog has blood from his sheath. Is it serious? What's the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 4 months old

Today I noticed 3 droplets of blood coming from my dog’s sheath. They are not coming from the penis. He does not have any trouble urinating. He seemed a bit engourged for a few seconds and then the droplets stopped. Have appt Thursday. Can this be serious? Why would this happen?

Poor guy. Due to his age and the location in which the blood is coming from there are 2 very likely possible causes for this; 1) A foreign body, 2) A prepucial tumor. The vet will need to examine this area closely to look for either of these possibilities and treat accordingly. Best case scenario is that something just got stuck up there that can be removed and then an anti-inflammatory medication can help heal the wounded area. Best of luck at the vet with your pet Hades. Take care.
