My guinea pig has a wet, gunky eye and is chattering his teeth. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old

My guinea pig who is 4 years old has recently developed a wet/gunky patch in the inner corner of his left eye it has now got worse and I’m worried that something underlining is wrong he has also been quiet and keeps coming up to the front of his cage and making a chattering noise with his teeth. Could you advise me what’s best ?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pebbles. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian as he may have an eye infection. The veterinarian will use an ophthalmic scope to evaluate the eyes. He will likely need an eye drop or ointment. Is he sneezing or having any other signs of disease? If so, he could have an upper respiratory tract infection and may need an antibiotic. I hope this information helps!
