My dog's collapsing trachea cough syrup dose changed. Are they same?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old | 11 lbs

Hello I was hoping you could help me with my dog she has an extreme collapsing trachea she was perscribed 2.5 Mls of hydro Codeine cough syrup 3 times A-day. Today when I went to refill her prescription the vet changed it to .25 mls of hydromet cough syrup 3 times A-day. When I asked why such a smaller dosage, he said it was the same thing, and now I'm confused. I don't think the .25 Mls is enough to control her cough. Can you confirm or deny that what he said about these dose being the same?

Hi there. You're correct that 2.5 mL is not the same as 0.25 mL, so I think there may have been a misunderstanding on your veterinarian's part if he said it was the same dose. I would suggest calling back tomorrow morning to discuss it, or stopping by with the new prescription so that you can actually show him the difference. If the new prescription was accidentally written incorrectly, he should be able to write you a new one :)
