Why is my senior Maltese not eating or drinking and getting worse?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 13 years and 4 months old | 7.4 lbs

My 12 year old Maltese won’t eat or drink. It has been 4 days with hardly any foot or water. According to the Vet, blood work is ok, and X-rays don’t show anything alarming. He vave her one injection for nausea and another for acidity. The dog ate a bit after that. Went to sleep and today she is worse. She is a bit stiff.

Poor Chanel! If she is still not eating and acting worse today, I would take her back to the vet for a recheck since it sounds like something is definitely still wrong. If blood work and x-rays didn't show anything obvious, the next diagnostic step would likely be an abdominal ultrasound and possibly exploratory surgery with biopsies of her stomach and intestines. Referral to a specialist for advanced imaging such as an MRI or CT scan, endoscopy, etc. could also be considered.
