My puppy ate a latex glove. Does he need a vet if acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

my 12 week old rottweiler puppy ate a latex glove 30 hours ago and hasn't pooped it out yet. Acting normal. Appetite and energy is normal. Stools are normal. Do I need to see a vet?

Hi there. It's possible that the glove may pass through his system without any problems - this may take 2-3 days or so, so I wouldn't necessarily worry too much just yet :) As long as he's eating and drinking, pooping regularly, and acting normal, you shouldn't need to be concerned. Signs of an intestinal blockage normally include repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements. If any of these symptoms develop over the next few days, then I would definitely take your pup to the vet for an exam as he may need emergency surgery to remove the glove.

Some other pieces of the glove could actually be still inside her gastrointestinal system and cause obstructions or quite dangerous gastroenteritis. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm/rule out these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
