Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old

Why does my hamster have a hug lump on her shoulder? She is doing her normal activities and she looks like she isn’t in pain. A few days ago she didn’t have that lump. Why does she have it now? What happened to her?

I am sorry to hear about your hamster. With a swelling like this we would worry about a variety of problems including a cellulitis or inflammation/infection of the tissues, swelling due to trauma like a broken bone, swelling due to edema or disruption of lymph flow, or unfortunately a tumor. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine your hamster to determine the source of the swelling and the possible treatment options.
