My new rescue dog won't eat much & struggles to chew. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old

My female dog is hardly eating. She is a rescue dog. She's is hardly eating, she's eating only once a day very small amount of food and when she chews it seem she is having a hard time chewing. I get her soft milk bones, she drinks alot of water. Could it be she's trying to get use to her new home or something else?

It sounds like there could be a potential problem. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime I would try blending her food into an oatmeal type consistency to see if she is able to eat more comfortably if she doesnt have to chew. Jaw pain, tooth pain, or swallowing difficulties could all be possible. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
