My cat scratches neck, feels electric. Hyperesthesia or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Male | neutered | 10 months and 13 days old

I'm sure my cat has hyperthesia. It's like a ripple/ electric current going through his wee body. I'm quite concerned as he has patches at the front and side of his neck where he has been scratching. Can I bathed this with tepid water and should I makeep an appointment for the vet.

Hyperesthesia is actually pretty uncommon in cats but can rarely occur. Based on what you are describing I would be concerned that your cat has allergies and/or fleas that are causing the excessive itch and discomfort. I think it is a great idea for you to take Deano to the vet to be checked out so he can get some relief. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
