How to stop my dog from moving puppies into my bed at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 8 lbs

My chihuahua had her first litter, 5 puppies! She is fine in whelping box during the day but at night she keeps putting her po puppies in bed with me. I put them back and wake up to them behind my legs again. What do I do?

Get a baby gate to confine her to them or place them in a room. She wants to be included and if she is used to sleeping in your bed, this her solution to keep things normal and still take care of the babies. You will have to find a way to keep the puppies off the bed and restrict the mom's activity to do this for their safety.
