My cat is unhappy indoors. Should I let her out, despite her fear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 5 lbs

I have a young cat, abandoned as a kitten 18 months ago when the family moved, taking mother and siblings. My other older females chase her. Should I keep her inside or let her out, knowing she is scared to come back. She does really want to go out

Some cats are truly happier being outdoor cats as then enjoy roaming and hunting. It does have some safety issues but happiness may be more important. If you try to keep a safe box and food in a special place for her, she will likely return to come visit and eat and come and go
