My cat's back claw came off and his paw is red. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My cat had been pulling on his back claw for a few days, when I looked at it today it seemed he pulled it off, he is acting completely normal, but it looks a bit red, should I do something? He won't let me touch his paws again to get a better picture.

IF the nail has fallen off and the pick fleshy tissue is exposed, then it can be painful for him. the pink tissue contained the nerve and blood supply and it is exposed so it is painful. If this is the case, then it will need to be clipped down to relieve the pain and let it grow in from there
