My dog has two holes on his muzzle. What's causing this skin issue?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

I dont know what this is. I left him in my bathroom for a while and came back to this. It was not there befor. It looks like there are two holes where the skin is missing

Poor Rex! The lesion on his muzzle is unusual and could be due to an insect or spider bite, a burn, an abrasion, or self trauma. Be sure to prevent Rex from scratching or rubbing at this lesion by putting an e-collar on him, if needed. If this lesion persists or worsens, he should be examined by a vet. I hope that all goes well!
