Why is my dog's nose still running after tooth extraction? Is a root left?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 14 years and 11 months old

How can we know if a there is a refined root left behind, after extracting the infected tooth and closing the oranasal fistula? Does it show on sinus CT scan or sinus radiography or MRI ? Nasal discharge still goes on and I want to know why.

The only way to know is via radiographs of the maxilla. Ths can be a simple dental radiograph and of course it would also show on a CT scan of the maxillary bone. I think MRI is probably not necessary to find a root remnant.
