My cat pees/poops on my bed after my trip. Is she sick or behavioral?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years old | 13 lbs

I left for a trip and when i came back my cat kept pooping and peeing in my bed. She is still at it now two weeks later and I have tried everything I can think of to make it stop. I've changed litters a few times, physically put her in the box to show her it's new, covered my bed with a tarp yet she is still at it. I currently have the litter I've been using for years in the box and she is still having problems, when she hasn't before two weeks ago. Is she sick or is it a behavior problem?

I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with that, I know how frustrating it is. She might have a health issue, such as a urinary tract infection, bladder stone, or an endocrine disease, or it may just be behavioral. Take her to your vet to have her examined, and have some lab work run to rule out a medical cause. If it is behavioral, there are things you can do to try to help.
