My cat has a painful, bleeding belly growth with fur loss. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 8 months old

Hi, my 7 year old female cat has a growth on her belly. We first noticed something about 6 months ago but it felt more like a swollen nipple, now it has gotten a lot bigger. It has gotten worse in the last few days I believe. She got on my lap and I picked her up and touched the growth, she swatted at me, which she has never done before. I took another look at it after that and noticed that it may have been bleeding or something coming from it. Also, her fur seems to be falling out around it

I suggest a veterinary exam soon. Any mass, especially if grows fast and appears painful to touch should be assessed. If the mass is related to the nipple or mammary gland, it could be a type of breast cancer. I cannot see well on the pictures nor can I feel it so please see a veterinarian in person for a better assessment. Good luck with Raven and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach .
