My senior cat has small skin tag-like lumps. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 years and 8 months old | 9 lbs

My cat is almost 11 y/o. She's spayed and has always been in good health. I noticed a sm. lump on her back a while back. It's about 1/2 size of a pea. It seems like a skin tag or bump like that. Now I recently found another one very close to it but smaller. Do you have any idea what they could be & should I take her to her vet? My son's cat had a lump on his side, they thought was a lipoma. It was large and turned out to be cancer. This seems very different but still scares me. Thank you, Lynn

Hi there, Emmie could just have a benign skin tag, but any lump should be checked with fine needle aspirate (small poke into the bump to collect cells which then get checked on microscope). Checking will insure it's caught early if it is anything, and if it's not you have that peace of mind. I hope that helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
