Pet's info: Dog | Blue Heeler | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old
Hi, we just adopted a 1 year old blue heeler to be a companion for our great Pyrenees (2 years old). They seem to get along really well, but the heeler is starting to herd our pyrenees and pin him in his dog house and won't let him out until someone from our family comes to tell her to stop. Any idea on how to stop her from herding the other dog? The behavior is only present when we aren't around. As soon as we appear to correct the behavior she lets him go.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, heelers are highly driven to herd- that’s what the breed is made for. Your new heeler will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation or she will likely continue to herd whatever she can - in this case your Pyrenees. I highly recommend daily training sessions, agility training, long runs, trips to the dog park, or some combination thereof. You will have to make this a priority for the next several years most likely. Best of luck to you and your pups!
