My dog pees at night. Can changing meal times help her sleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old

Hi there, we have a 7 year old American Bulldog who we have always fed one meal at night. She has always woken during the night to go to the toilet, sometimes 2-3 times a night. I find if I am at home with her during the day, she can go 8-10 hours without needing to go to the toilet. Do you think it would make a difference to her sleep through the night if I change her meal time to the mornings?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. Yes, I would change her meal time to the mornings. Dogs typically will need to have a bowel movement after a meal. So this makes it more likey that she will need to have a bowel movement overnight. I would also take her out frequently during the day so that she will have less of need to go out at night. It has probably become a bit of a habit for her to go out at night. So it will take some time for her to adjust to the new schedule. I hope this information helps!
