My timid cat has grass stuck near his eye. Can I safely remove it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

There is a piece of dried grass/weed that has gotten into my cats face above the eye area, its been there for 2weeks now, I know it bothers him as he doesn't like the other cats going near his face, he is quite timid and fairly wild so I cannot take him to a vet. Should I try pulling it out or just leave it in there?

If it is causing discomfort it needs to be removed, there is a risk if it is rubbing the skin that it will cause an infected wound. Given it is on the face, sedation may be the best option in order to remove it safely (for both cat and handler) and you should contact your vets office if it does not comb out easily. Take care as cats in pain can be very unpredicatble and deep bites and scratches which can cause infections in people are possible if trying to work around his head in particular
