Why does my hamster chew her metal cage & water bottle? How to stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 1 1/2 year old Teddy bear hamster and she constantly chews on her metal cage and water bottle. I have no clue why she does it and I’m not sure how to get her to stop or if she will stop. Any thoughts?

It may be stress or boredom. Hamsters need to chew to keep their teeth filed down. Provide a variety of chew toys and hides to keep her busy. A wheel is good for exercise as are tunnels that she can move through.
