Why is my cat squinting, has a pink, cloudy eye, and is slow?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Snowshoe | Male | neutered | 11 months and 6 days old

Hi Petco Pet Education Center vets & folks! Found u on Petco website. This is awesome! We're making decisions on our cat's overall health & wellness care packages, insurance, etc... Shifu is 11month Snowshoe cat. We rescued him, as his 6 otr feral siblings died suddenly. He's normally a hyper, healthy teen cat, as otr vets have said. We noticed he started squinting right eye - Now pink & a little cloudy. He's an inside cat, but noticed he's a little slower than usual. Pls help Thank you!

Hello! I’m glad you found us! Poor Shifi, but what a sweet face! It sounds and looks like he may have a scratch on his cornea (the front surface of the eye) which is a painful condition that can become a major problem if it gets infected. Assuming he is otherwise fine, is still eating and his attitude is normal (not dumpy/lethargic), then get an E-collar (cone of shame) on him to prevent him from scratching it or traumatizing his eye further, and make an appointment with your vet today or tomorrow morning. If your vet does diagnose a corneal ulcer or scratch, she/he will likely prescribe some topical antibiotics for the eye to prevent it from getting infected. She/he may send other medications home as well. I hope that helps! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
