My dog won't walk far on leash. Is it pain or stress? Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

My dog has recently started acting a little off, he normally loves going for walks, lately I’ve had to pick him up and walk a bit, then put him down so he can go potty. The moment i say “okay lets go back” he walks perfectly back home. He drinks water and eats like normal and still asks for his harness when we get home so he can carry it up the stairs. Should I take him to a vet? Also My sister is visiting me and is 5 months pregnant, and I’ve read that they can sense it, can that be a reason?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ozzie. Is he limping at all? He could be experiencing some mild pain making him less willing to walk normally. If this does not seem to be the case, he could be reacting to your sister visiting. Pets can find house guests stressful. If he behavioral changes persist or if he refuses to eat and drink, then he will need to see his veterinarian. In the meantime, try to keep his daily routine as consistent as possible. I hope this information helps!
