Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 1 month old | 8.8 lbs
My 4yo female has lived with me nearly 2 years, very settled and affectionate to me and any humans who visit. Enjoys spending time outdoors in my and nearby gardens. My bro moved in with 17yo female totally blind and quite deaf. Old cat has settled in well, but my cat is v nervous, hiding under my bed and growling. Neither cat aggressive at all, how to get my resident cat to relax as she's under no threat?

I'm sorry to hear that Mary is having such a difficult time with the addition of your brother's cat. I have a few suggestions for you. One option for decreasing stress is to add a Feliway Diffuser ( https://www.feliway.com ) to your house. This is a calming pheromone that will work for a month. I have also had luck with Rescue Remedy ( http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pet/ ) which can be added to the water. You could also consider calming music specifically for cats ( http://throughadogsear.com/tace/through-a-cats-ear-1-music-for-calming/ ). All those options are safe for both cats. If you have tried the above options and Mary is not any calmer, then it may be time to discuss short-term anti-anxiety medication with your veterinarian. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas. Thanks for using PetCoach.

Hi Nella, I'm so sorry that Patches is such a nervous cat. I have a few suggestions for you to try to decrease stress. If Patches continues to be so nervous, it may be time to take him to your veterinarian for a physical exam and discussion about possible anti-anxiety medication. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
