Why is my older cat losing hair on her side with rough brown spots?

My cat lost a lot of hair on her side and has some brown spots that look rough. She wasn't in a fight or anything that I know of and she's an older (9-10 yrs old) indoor cat and doesn't seem to have fleas. Any ideas? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old | 7 lbs

Some possibilities may include a fungal infection, bacterial infection, mites, a food or environmental allergy, or evidence of an underlying endocrine disorder such as a thyroid problem. Your veterinarian can diagnose these potential conditions with a fungal culture, skin scraping, and some blood work. I would recommend Bella visit her vet soon to have the possibilities above ruled out so she can get the most appropriate treatment.
