How to heal my dog's irritated neck from collar and allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 58 lbs

Hi! Freya has been scratching at her neck, we removed her collar and her skin is irritated and fur is missing. Her collar wasn't too tight (We could for 2 fingers between her and it) and she's been wearing it about a year. She does have seasonal allergies but most years does not need medication for it. We are keeping the collar off unless we go for a walk, but is there anything we can do to help the skin heal? Thank you!

Hello, sorry to hear about Freya. It looks like she has a local skin infection which could be secondary to a severe episode of allergies. You can wipe the area with skin sensitive baby wipes 2-3 times daily. If this isn't improving within 10 days or if it is getting worse, then Freya should be evaluated by her veterinarian as she may need oral antibiotics and allergy medications. Hope this helps and best of luck.
