Dog has small scrotum lesions. Should I see a vet or treat at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 65 lbs

I noticed small lesions on my dogs scrotum today. He doesn’t seem to be licking them and doesn’t seem to be in pain. He is acting normal and eating/drinking normally. There was not any trauma that I know of to the area. I am wondering if I should be concerned and take him to see a vet for this or put on some topical cream and wait to see if they heal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shiloh! It is hard to see the entire lesion from your pictures. I can't tell if it is raised like a mass or flat. If in person it is raised then I would have it looked at by a Vet in person. If it is flat you can treat it like an abrasion, wound, or infection with topical cream and if it doesn't improve in a week have him seen or sooner if it worsens. i wish Shiloh a speedy recovery!
