Is confining a kitten to one room sustainable or fair for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs

My mom and sister recently adopted a 3 month old baby kitten. She has been such an adorable girl. The issue arose when my grandparents as well my dad disagreed o keep her. They aren't really a big fan of pets and im sure that wont change. i really wish for the kitten to grow up in a place where everybody loves her unconditionally. Even if my dad allows her to live at our house, she'll be limited to a single room. Although my mom and sister believe they would take care of her, is it sustainable?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think trying to confine a cat to one room of a house it's entire life (13+ years) isn't sustainable. But more so I do not think it is fair for Alice or a good quality of life to live in just one room. I would discuss this with your family and if you are not able to reach an agreement I would try to find Alice a home that can provide appropriate living arrangements. Good luck!
